Parents Demonstrate in Support of Penalized Teachers

This morning, Corozal Methodist School experienced a sickout after two teachers were placed on administrative leave and eight others called in sick. The situation escalated on Tuesday when preschool teachers Julie Castro and Stacy Chi received letters informing them that they were not to return to school until May 27th. The letters accused the teachers of professional misconduct and spreading misinformation among parents. News Five’s Britney Gordon was on the scene this morning to gather more details on the unfolding controversy.

“Bring our teachers back” This morning, protesters gathered outside Corozal Methodist School, holding signs expressing their displeasure. These protesters are parents of children attending the Methodist preschool, upset over the recent suspension of two teachers. Earlier this week, preschool teachers Julie Castro and Stacy Chi received letters placing them on administrative leave. The letters accused them of repeatedly disregarding lawful instructions and directives from the school’s administration. However, according to the parents, the teachers are simply standing up for their rights and the rights of their children.

“They were escorted from the school with police. And we do not see it. Fear the teachers were standing up for us, for our children. And on the decision making of graduation, which I believe is something not too exaggerating. And that’s the reason why we are here. It’s not only the preschool teachers, there are other teachers who are being victimized and well, I have kids not only in preschool, but I have kids in other classes, and I have seen it and it’s unfair.”

According to parents, the conflict at Corozal Methodist School escalated when teachers Julie Castro and Stacy Chi helped organize a graduation meeting to discuss details like the color scheme and preferred dates. However, the principal insisted that such decisions should come solely from her office. In a message sent to a group chat, parents were informed that the graduation date is set for June 13th at 1:30 p.m., just three and a half hours before the standard six graduation. This decision has fueled the ongoing dispute, leading to a protest by parents who support the teachers’ efforts to involve them in the planning process.

Voice of: Disgruntled Parent

“We are not agreeing with the date. She want the graduation to be along with the standard six graduation, which we refuse as the parents. It’s our money. We decide we want to have a decision in this graduation. We don’t want it with the standard sixth graduation. We believe that they want their own separate graduation date, which they can have time with their fellow classmates and they can enjoy, take pictures. I had an experience, which my son graduated from standard six and my daughter graduated from preschool, it was a  clash because I had to run out. I couldn’t take any pictures with my child. I still do not have any pictures because I had to hurry, rush out, get my son ready, and get back for the other graduation.”

Parents at Corozal Methodist School are voicing their frustrations, alleging that the principal has frequently denied them the opportunity to speak with teachers and visit their children. Barbara Acosta, whose grandchild attends the school, claims that the principal has been difficult to deal with since the school year began.

                             Barbara Acosta

Barbara Acosta, Disgruntled Parent

“ When school started, I brought my grandson. My grandson is someone that don’t eat from anyone, so I brought his lunch and the principal told me that I cannot eat on the school ground with my grandson. She put us to eat on the seaside. Then ney di  talk about healthiness and, and good whatever they want, say that is not right. We have a school yard. We pay for that. We pay our school fees. Then now stimulation month. She noh do nothing, nothing to help us. We, the parents and grandparents had to put out to help the teachers. Now she put the teachers on leave. That is not right. We want Methodist to come back where it is. Either she go and let our teachers to come back.”

One parent explains that she does not feel that her children are well taken care of by the principal. Alleging that her six-year-old child was once left unattended in a room without medication after she ran a fever.

Voice of: Disgruntled Parent

“Locked her up in a isolated room. I don’t know if they have a clinic there that she has authority to, to build a isolation room to, to put children. She locked my six-year-old up in the room with high fever, did not have any supervision because nobody was there to see if the child would collapse if she would convulse because it’s fever. I told them if they can kindly give her medication till I reach, because I sent the taxi to get my child. She refused to put the child in a taxi. So I said, can you administer medication? The  vice principal told me, no, she’s not authorized. I say, I am the mother and I am authorizing you.”

The letters sent to the teachers allege that they repeatedly and flagrantly acted with disregard and in contravention to lawful instructions. orders and or directives given by the administrators. It further reads quote, “During the administrative leave and the formal investigation, you are barred from performing duties as a teacher and in any way whatsoever meddling with the investigation, including communicating with the students, parents and teachers affiliated with the school. At the conclusion, you will be either notified of charge(s) or immediately reinstated without prejudice to your post. You will receive your full salary whilst you are on administrative leave”, end quote.

Britney Gordon

“Has she tried having any meetings with you parents and your teachers?”

Barabara Acosta

“No meetings.  She only had one meeting. Beg, beg, beg, beg, beg beg. Like the siren. A wa wa wa, that’s all she do. Stimulation month. Never show up. But when she want something ih hurry, wa wa wa that no go so.”

News Five contacted the school for a response but was told that the principal would not be commenting on the situation at this time. Britney Gordon for News Five.

Police Suspect Woman was Murdered in Domestic Dispute

Meanwhile, in Corozal, police are looking into the tragic murder of a woman in Concepcion Village. They suspect that thirty-six-year-old Wendy Mendez might have been caught in a domestic dispute, especially since she was gravely injured in a chopping incident back in 2022 that nearly took her life. A.C.P. Hilberto Romero shared that Mendez succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, following an attack on Friday, March ninth.

“On Sunday, the ninth of March 2025 a report was received that a female was found unconscious in Concepcion Village. She was taken for medical treatment. Thereafter, police visited and saw the victim. She later succumbed to her injuries on Friday. Several interviews are being conducted and we’re trying to determine what happened to her as she was at the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. She was identified as Wendy Mendez of Concepcion Village.”

Marion Ali

“Do police believe this was a domestic issue?”

A.C.P. Hilberto Romero

“Well, we have certain information that we are following up on and so, we should do some follow up today and the coming days to determine what happened to her.”

Reporter

“Would that information include a prior police report involving domestic violence?”

A.C.P. Hilberto Romero

“Yes, we have a report and that is being followed up likewise.”

Meet the Candidates for the Corozal District

The political scene is heating up now that the Prime Minister has officially set March 12th as the date for the general election. Over the weekend, we followed all eight candidates as they campaigned in their constituencies. This weekend, News Five took its cameras to the Corozal District to catch up with all eight candidates running there. They shared their plans and the feedback they’re getting from voters on the campaign trail. Here’s News Five’s Marion Ali with the report.

Marion Ali, Reporting

We caught up with the UDP’s candidate for Corozal Southeast, Antonio “Tony” Herrera, in Sarteneja Village, one of the northernmost communities in Belize. If elected, Tony plans to leverage the recent infrastructure improvements and the village’s charm to boost tourism and create jobs. He also aims to tackle the high cost of fuel and living.

                       Tony Herrera

Tony Herrera, U.D.P Standard Bearer, Corozal Southeast

“We, as a government in waiting, our purpose is to try and bring down the cost of fuel because that’s where we had it before, and also we will try our best to lower the cost of living. We will encourage tourism – eco-tourism, flyfishing, stuff like that in the area of Sarteneja. Look at Sarteneja, the beautiful sea it has. We can exploit that. That will increase the betterment of the livelihood of this area. Look at Chunox. It has a beautiful lagoon; Progresso Lagoon, Copperbank Lagoon. So all this area will be accessible by you and I, not only by tourists.”

Herrera is also advocating for improved policing in the area. His political rival in Corozal Southeast, the incumbent Florencio Marin Junior, emphasizes that he doesn’t take his constituents for granted. For Marin, infrastructure and education are top priorities as he heads into this election.

                            Florencio Marin

Florencio Marin, P.U.P Standard Bearer, Corozal Southeast

“I now need to focus on expanding on lights in the streets. I now need to focus on expanding the school here. We’re going to complete the Caledonia – Buena Vista Road. We’re working on that right now. We’re going to complete from Progresso to San Estevan. We’re also going to connect Progresso to the Sarteneja Road. We’re also going to connect Chunox to the Sarteneja Road and Chunox to the Progresso – San Estevan Junction, so that we can be able to get the whole area paved as much as possible. We also need to support the growing community in Cerro Sands, so we have already started paving some parts towards the Cerros Maya ruins.”

In May 2022, Martin Rivera was selected as the U.D.P. candidate for Corozal Southwest. He believes that voters’ frustration with the government’s handling of inflation in Belize will lead to a shift at the polls.

               Martin Rivera

Martin Rivera, U.D.P Standard Bearer, Corozal Southwest

“The prices of all goods, of merchandise, of textiles, of technology, everything has gone so high, especially the cost of living, the food, the basic food has been so expensive. And I do believe that they are going to look out, they’re going to target, they’re going to penalize this system, this government that has been jeopardizing every citizen’s growth.”

Ramiro Ramirez is running for the P.U.P again in Corozal Southwest. His campaign began the moment he won the last election, and his work in the community show his dedication. Every Sunday, you can find him leading a garbage collection drive.

                          Ramiro Ramirez

Ramiro Ramirez, P.U.P Standard Bearer, Corozal Southwest

“We bought a truck. And that truck is giving service to my community. Now it’s easier and faster. We don’t have to wake up 5 o’clock in the morning. Now it’s 7 o’clock, by 10, 11, we’re done. Before, sometimes, it was all day with the trucks.  So, I think that’s a plus for all of us and there’s no charge. Nobody charge to pick up garbage. On the left you can see a complex, and it’s not the only one that we have here. We have one in Libertad, we have one in Louisville, we have another one in St. Victor and, we have another one that is going to start soon, soon after election. What I want for San Francisco. We need a police station, and we need the market, and we need a school.”

The U.D.P. has been rocked by a fierce leadership battle, but Martin Rivera and Tony Herrera are confident it won’t hurt their chances at the polls.

Martin Rivera

“Shyne and Miss Tracy Panton – they are keeping democracy alive. One of the things that I don’t like is that they have gone to the extreme, but democracy in our U.D.P. is alive. Most of the U.D.P. supporters in the Corozal Southwest have pledged to me that they will work with whosoever is the leader and I am one hundred percent willing to work with anybody who becomes the leader.”

Tony Herrera

“The Honorable Shyne, the Honorable Tracy will not campaign for me, I have to do that myself. For me, politics is local. I have nothing to do in that fight and my people understand that. That it’s what I bring to the table, what I can do for them.”

This Wednesday, we’ll introduce you to the other PUP and UDP candidates running in the four remaining constituencies in the Corozal District. Marion Ali for News 5

Corozal Family on Edge After Home Targeted by Gunman

Tonight, a family in Corozal is reeling after their home was targeted by a gunman in the early hours of Sunday morning. Reports indicate that Viv Bradley, daughter of sixty-nine-year-old Justice of the Peace Anthony Bradley, and her two children were at their family home when they heard several loud bangs nearby. When Anthony Bradley returned home a few hours later, he found broken glass and bullet holes in his office door. This terrifying ordeal has left the family fearing for their safety and wondering why they were targeted. Here’s News Five’s Britney Gordon with more details.

Britney Gordon, Reporting

For the Bradley family, Saturday evenings usually mean cozying up together in the living room to watch TV. But on January fifth, Viv Bradley was feeling tired and decided to head to bed early, with her two young children following suit. Little did she know this decision might have saved their lives. Just a few hours later, gunfire erupted, targeting their living room. Her father, Anthony Bradley, discovered the bullet holes hours later and shares more about this harrowing experience.

                                 Anthony Bradley

Anthony Bradley, Homeowner

“On Sunday, I came from my farm, where I reside now with my wife to check on my daughter here that lives at our family home.  And when I opened the gate and I came in, I observed some glass, broken glass on the floor,  and I also observed a hole on the glass door. And so I thought in my mind I said probably somebody threw a stone and as you can see we are close in front of the street. Not far from the street, right? Our house is very close to the street.  And so I thought it was somebody that threw the stone and hit the glass and broke the glass.  So I showed it to my daughter and I said you know, yeah, I noticed this as somebody threw a stone and broke the glass, not thinking that could have been gunshot. But when I walked out to meet her, I saw she was crying. And then I observed, as you can see here, the bullet shots on the front of my house.”

Bradley, a local Justice of the Peace, recounts that in the early hours of the morning, between midnight and one a.m., his daughter heard several gunshots. Viv never imagined their family home would be the target of such an attack. Paralyzed by fear, she couldn’t call 911 or alert a neighbor. Anthony Bradley is convinced this was a deliberate act.

Anthony Bradley

“If you look at things, the evidence that is on the wall and my office, the person actually came and shot from the street to my office, shot the glass, then more over on the other side of the corner of the fence and purposely emptied about fourteen rounds against the wall and windows.”

The family is now at a loss for what could have prompted the attack and is too terrified to sleep at night. Bradley shared that in his forty-two years of living in the neighborhood, he has never witnessed an attack like this. He has since begun increasing security measures for some peace of mind.

Anthony Bradley

“Why would someone somebody want to harm my family and myself? I don’t know, because I don’t owe anybody. I don’t borrow no money from nobody. I’m not involved in any illegal activities. And so I find it very strange that, and frightening because now I have to be taking, putting in place security cameras on my home making sure that my family’s secure, my children’s from out of harm’s way. So I don’t know what is happening in Corozal. Now we have lawless people roaming around shooting your homes.  Never in history have I seen something like this.”

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident and no items were stolen from the property. Still, the family is shaken up.

Anthony Bradley

“Thank God that no life was lost, and you give God thanks for that. We’re praying for family and friends who have called in support of us. I am taking precautions. Like I said for my home and her children because this is something that has never happened to me like I said I mean my all my life six-nine years living here in Corozal and look at what I’m facing now look this is out of ordinary.”

Neighbors reported hearing a motorcycle speeding away around the time of the attack. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and help bring those responsible to justice.

Anthony Bradley

“What can we say? We are living in an era now when we have to protect our homes. The whole community, we have new people moving into our communities now. When I was growing, all my neighbors, we knew each other. Now we have strangers living among us. Our community is evolving, it’s changing. And so we need to start to take care of our property and our families. Life has changed and we have to change it. Sometimes we don’t even know who to trust now. Because this is the kind of life that we are living now. We can’t trust nobody.”

House Shot up in Ranchito Village, Residents Concerned

Public safety concerns are mounting in Corozal District after gunmen targeted two homes around the same time. Early Sunday morning, between midnight and one a.m., the Bradley family home was riddled with bullets. Just a five-minute drive away in Ranchito village, another home came under fire. Neighbors reported being jolted awake by the sound of gunfire around twelve-thirty a.m. and quickly alerted authorities. When the police arrived, they found several bullet holes on the side of the building, but the shooter had already fled. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. We spoke with a neighbor of the targeted homeowners, who shared that his family is now living in fear inside their own home.

                           Voice of: Neighbor

Voice of: Neighbor

“ I was sleeping about midnight, about twelve-thirty, and suddenly  I hear nine or ten shots fired, but then some more down. Then I hurry, got up and I peep and I saw no one and I just hear a gunshot. And then after that, we call the police and the police came quickly. They respond quick. Two mobile came. One came to my place and one gone more down. After that, the other one came and told the other guy to leave. And they leave. Then all the neighbors came out and trying to see what was going on. Then we saw one of our neighbors his house got shot, After that, we got home again to go and sleep back.”

Britney Gordon

“So your neighbor got injured?”

Voice of: Neighbor

“Nobody got injured. Luckily, nobody. Just the house.”

Britney Gordon

“And do you know any reason why something like this might have happened?”

Voice of: Neighbor

“No, ma’am. It’s strange here in Ranchito.”

Britney Gordon

“You’re aware that yesterday another shooting happened nearby up more?”

Voice of: Neighbor

“Yeah, I heard about it on the news.”

Britney Gordon

“You don’t think there might be any connection if there’s someone going around causing trouble in the area?”

Voice of: Neighbor

“I have no, no idea. Here we’re working all day long and suddenly we hear that. We couldn’t sleep after that. We got too anxious. We couldn’t sleep. Nobody could sleep. Everybody’s calling one another. Is everything okay? If they hear no noise or nothing and that passed until morning.”

Britney Gordon

“Life has to resume back after this you guys go back to work continue your day, but do you guys have a feeling of unease or anxiety now just trying to live your life in your usually peaceful neighborhood?”

Voice of: Neighbor

“Here we are working again. Yes, we are scared because we don’t know it’s first time that something happened here in Ranchito, First time. But we are scared. All the neighbors are scared. We don’t know what’s going on. So it will be nice if the police patrol during the night or the day, to see what’s going on. Because people like that, you never know when they can come and attack you.”

What happened to 20-year-old Joshua Hall?

The search for twenty-year-old Joshua Hall has ended in grief. His bullet-riddled body was discovered in the Dominguez Layout area of Corozal Town. On December twenty-third, Hall was reported missing by his family after he failed to return home from his routine sign-in at the Corozal Police Station, a requirement of his bail conditions for a robbery charge he received a month earlier. After a week of relentless searching, Hall’s lifeless body was found and taken to the Corozal Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Here’s News Five’s Britney Gordon with more details.

Britney Gordon, Reporting

It’s been a week since twenty-year-old Joshua Hall was reported missing by his family, but the search ended in tragedy on Sunday. The San Antonio resident was found shot to death, hidden among the bushes in the Dominguez Layout area of Corozal District. The last place Hall was seen alive was the Corozal Police Station on December twenty-third, where he signed in just before nine a.m.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division

“On Sunday, the twenty-ninth day of December 2024, upon information received, police visited the Dominguez Layout area in Corozal, where he saw the lifeless body of a male person with gunshot injuries. He was identified as Joshua Hall, who had been reported missing the week before. He was seen with gunshot injuries and a bicycle was found in the area. The information is he had gone to the station to sign as he is on bail. Thereafter, he left on his bicycle. Sometime thereafter, he was reported missing.”

In November, Joshua Hall was released on bail for a robbery charge, with the condition that he sign in at the police station every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Hall had been faithfully following this routine until the day he vanished. With no security footage or witness statements to confirm that Hall left the police station, rumors of police involvement in his disappearance started to swirl. Senior Superintendent Chris Noble addressed these claims earlier today.

Sr. Supt. Chris Noble, Northern Regional Commander

“Based on the allegations that the family has brought forward, we are looking into it. We have the professional standard branch that are in Corozal and they are doing what they need to do. The family did have an independent person contact me and I asked that person to call me.  Speak to the family to dissuade any notion that the police would be involved.”

The family also claims that Joshua had been threatened by an officer and targeted during previous run-ins with the law. Senior Superintendent Chris Noble stated that the matter has been referred to the Professional Standards Branch for investigation.

Sr. Supt. Chris Noble

“ Based on that is where we are with the professional standard branch, that’s one.  Two, I will not go further than what the family has said because that is a matter that can be taken up legally by the person named.”

While the search for Joshua was still ongoing, his sister Eden Hall explained that his behavior was changing for the better, particularly since he was anticipating becoming a father very soon.

On the Phone: Eden Hall, Sister of Deceased

“ I know my brother was imperfect. I won’t come on here and pretend like he was a scene, but after all, he’s our family. And you know, it’s the worst feeling to not know anything and trying to find and cannot find anything.”

Benita Keme-Palacio

“How did his behavior stand after, after being released though? Did it improve or was he still?”

On the Phone: Eden Hall

“It did improve. With the baby on the way, we were seeing a lot of changes. We were trying, like I said, we have a very supportive family. We look out for each other and we’re very close to one another. So, we were trying with him. He was trying to maintain his behavior. So like I said, he wasn’t involved in anything that we know of.”

Hall’s family had pooled together a five-thousand-dollar reward for anyone with information leading to his discovery. Before he was found, his sister, Aiyana Hall shared that the hardest part was not knowing what had happened to her brother.

Aiyana Hall, Sister of Deceased

“Honestly, I want to tell you know that worst feeling ever. We had plans as a family for Christmas.  We had his baby shower on Sunday because the baby is due January eighth. Anytime now, then they expect the baby and he excited for the baby and he try. He was trying.  I can’t tell you what happened and I know, like I said, we probably won’t see him again, but we at least as his family, we want closure guys.”

Noble said that police are looking into all possible motives, including Hall’s previous interactions with the law.

Sr. Supt. Chris Noble

“Our investigation is correct. It is still fluid and we’re looking into the angles. One brought forth by the family and others that we are getting leads into.”

Ministry Says 80% of Sugar Roads have been Repaired in Corozal

On Friday, Belize Sugar Industries kicked off the 2024-2025 sugar crop with high hopes. Last season was a banner year, boasting record prices for sugar cane and the largest export of raw sugar in Belize’s history. But the sweet success has turned a bit sour as the industry braces for challenges ahead. Farmers are battling fusarium disease, which has hit crops hard in Corozal, and poor weather conditions aren’t helping. To make matters worse, the dreadful state of the sugar roads is making it nearly impossible for farmers to deliver their cane. Minister of Agriculture, Jose Abelardo Mai, assured that efforts are underway to tackle these issues.

Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture

“I just have telephoned it, the chairman of sugar board.  Mr. Osorio,  the farmers met this morning and they are still concerned. Although the MIDH is saying that in Corozal, the contracts have been completed up to eighty percent. So there seems to be some type of miscommunication regarding how many sugar roads are being done. Nevertheless, tomorrow I will proceed to meet with the cane farmers and in my area, we’ll go over the area to see which roads have been repaired and which not. But the Prime Minister is also informed.  I report to him daily on the matter of sugar industry, and if there is a need to fix the sugar roads, we have to do it. The only problem is that the weather has not been too cooperative. It rains on and off, and if it stops raining, then the soil is still wet, and the trucks can’t get in to dump. But it’s not an excuse. I will follow up tomorrow, and if we need to fix sugar roads, we will do so.”

Sister of Missing Corozal Man Says He Planned to Return Home

It’s been four days since twenty-year-old Joshua Hall from San Antonio Village, Corozal, went missing, and his family is pleading for help to find him. Joshua was last seen on Monday morning when he went to the Corozal Town Police Station to sign in, as required by his bail conditions. Records show that he signed in that morning but never made it back home. Joshua left home on a pink bicycle with a basket on the front, wearing a green shirt, black cargo pants, and black Nike slippers. Today, his sister, Aiyana Hall, took to Facebook to share more details about his disappearance. She explained that Joshua must sign in at the police station every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and must be home by six p.m. each evening due to his curfew. If he’s caught out after curfew, he risks being incarcerated. Aiyana believes her brother intended to return home that morning. The family is desperate for any information that could help bring Joshua back safely.

                                      Aiyana Hall

Aiyana Hall, Sister of Joshua Hall

“He left home at 8:36 promising to return to set up a bed, being that he’s waiting his child and him and his girlfriend are supposed to move in. The last message was to his girlfriend that he’s heading out to sign and he will be right back. However, records show that he signed it at the police station at 8:58 a.m., but after that, no one at the police station can confirm that he left. Or no one has, they haven’t picked up any footage that shows him leaving the station or anywhere in Corozal. Right now, we’re suspecting anything. We can’t overlook anything at this point. It’s been too long. No one is talking. There’s no sign of his bike. And I know that he wouldn’t just disappear like that. You know, he looked forward to coming home. He looked forward to come home to my apartment. He would eat. He would never just go and tell nobody anything. Also, I have access to his social media, both Facebook and Instagram, which was his only way of communicating with anyone. And I can verify that he wasn’t supposed to meet any friend that day. He didn’t have any plans further than going to sign and returning home.”

Sister Makes Desperate Appeal for Help

Joshua Hall, who was granted bail for a robbery charge on November twenty-fifth, had been diligently signing in at the police station three times a week. However, his sister Aiyana Hall mentioned that there’s no footage of him leaving the station, and no one was home to confirm his return that morning since everyone had left after he did. The family searched surrounding villages and areas for Joshua but with no success. Aiyana also alleged that some members of the Belize Police Department have threatened to harm her brother. She is appealing to residents with cameras near the police station to review their footage from Monday to see if they captured Joshua. Today, Aiyana, told News Five that the Corozal police have checked their cameras but have found nothing so far.

On the Phone: Eden Hall, Sister of Joshua Hall

“We just sat down with the commanding officer in Corozal, which is Mr. Carcamo, to update us on what they’re doing because so far we haven’t felt like they have been assisting us. We were told that they have checked certain cameras and they haven’t seen anything. So I asked because at this point, we are suspecting anyone. No one can tell us when they last saw him and the last known location was the police station because he signed in. So, we’re looking at our angles and I explained this to the commanding officer this morning. I told him we need to look at everything at this point, and he says that they are trying to clarify that he did leave the station. The cameras in the station aren’t working. So, so far, they haven’t found anything that shows him on any cameras that they have received footage of. He says that there are two cameras left to check, um, and they will get back to us.”

Fatal Stabbing in Corozal; Was it Over a Teenage Minor?

On Sunday, a fatal stabbing occurred in Corozal involving a man allegedly in a relationship with a teenage minor. Reports say Anthony Lewis visited the girl’s home and got into a heated altercation with her family members. During the scuffle, he was fatally wounded. No arrests have been made yet, as investigators are seeking further directives from the D.P.P.’s office.

ACP Hilberto Romero

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division

“On Sunday, December 22nd, 2024, police responded to a disturbance at G Street in Corozal Town.  Upon their arrival, they found the lifeless body of a male person identified as Anthony Lewis, with injuries to the head.  Investigation revealed that Lewis came to that house and he had a dispute with the family members there.  There was a struggle which led to injuries being caused upon him.  This matter is being investigated and the file will be sent to the DPP for directives.”

Reporter

“So as of now it’s just a death investigation.”

Hilberto Romero

“It is.  Anthony Lewis had no lawful authority to be at that house.  He was there and confronted the members there and so the injuries were caused to him.

Reporter: Is it true that, because we received reports that he had some type of relationship with one of the men’s minor daughters.”

Hilberto Romero

“That is correct.  He was presently on bail, as he was charged and taken to court.  That matter is pending trial at the Supreme Court.  Is that a possible motive for why they attacked him.  He came to the house and they defended themselves and this is what happened.”

Reporter

“Was he acting aggressive?”

Hilberto Romero

“Yes, he attacked the family members at the house.”
