Woman Granted Bail for Child Pornography and Assault Charges

Shania Welch, 21, was released on bail after being remanded for over five months for child pornography and sexual assault on a 10-year-old. The child reported that Welch made her perform a sexual act on her with a deodorant spray bottle while recording the act.

The preliminary inquiry (PI) concluded on March 17, 2025, and Welch was ordered to stand trial for two sexual offenses. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) submitted several statements against Welch, committing her case to the April 2025 session of the High Court. Welch is out on bail of $8,000 with two sureties of $4,000 each.

Welch must not interfere with the victim, stay 200 yards away from the victim, and report to the police station weekly. Allegations state that Welch made a video of the child engaged in explicit sexual activity between December 31, 2020, and January 1, 2022. The police prosecutor objected to bail due to fears Welch might interfere with the victim. Initially denied bail in October 2024, Welch was remanded until November 29, 2024. The Anti-Trafficking in Persons unit responded to information about the explicit video involving Welch and the child.
