San Pedro Lions Club Plans Barbeque for Fire Victims

The San Pedro Lions Club is stepping up to support the fire victims, collecting anything that can be of use or value. In times of misfortune, San Pedranos always come together, and this time is no different. Today, News Five visited the Lion’s Den in San Pedro, where the community was in full swing, gathering clothes and other essential items for the victims. Club member Marina Kay shared that they are planning a barbecue sale for early January to raise funds for the fire victims, and there’s also an ongoing dollar drive to help out.

“The families are coming in and taking what they feel that they are going to be using, what they need.”

So far, what have you got? Well, we’ve gotten clothes more than anything, some household items and we are receiving cash donations. Some have come in and give their cash donations.

“The minute something like this happens, we start receiving messages. Are you guys going to be collecting? Are you guys going to be? doing a data drive. You need our help. So people in the community do come out because they already know that lines will be the first responders to these kinds of tragedies.”

And how has the response been? What’s your thoughts on how San Pedranos have actually bonded together to be there for each other?

Marina Kay

“Well, it has always been a very close connection among the people. You know, a lot of people, although they don’t know you, they will care and the community will come together. Many are calling, many are asking for the Lions bank account. They want to do maybe a 20-dollar donation, but like we say, every dollar counts, every dollar helps. So we’re asking them to go into our Facebook page and we have posted our Lions Bank account. So we’ll be putting all the money together and then we’ll be dividing it among the 12 families.”

Equally?

Marina Kay

“Equally.”

And the items?

Marina Kay

“And the items, well like I said, they’re all different ages and sizes, so they’re coming in and picking what would be good for them, what fits them.”
