Doris Grant and Alleged Gang Boss are Shot in Belize City

A brazen attempt was made on the lives of Doris Grant and Austin Underwood in the wee small hours of Sunday morning, as they drove along Fairweather Street here in Belize City.  The couple reportedly left from an event they attended on Saturday night and came under gunfire while they were returning home to their Reggae Street address.  Grant has been in the news on several occasions recently, following an arraignment in the lower court for obtaining property by deception.  In the wake of those charges, an operation was conducted by the Belize Police Department during which Grant’s Gardenia property was ransacked by a team of officers.  Her residence in Port Loyola was also raided by police several days later.  Grant, as it has been reported, is the subject of an investigation into a purported land scheme that seemingly netted five million dollars in proceeds from several unsuspecting Mennonite businesspersons.  Notwithstanding these allegations against Grant, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero says that the shooting that left both Grant and Underwood injured is gang related.

“Police responded to a shooting near Fairweather Street in Belize City.  Upon their arrival, they received information that two persons had been shot and taken to the K.H.M.H.  They were identified as Doris Grant and Austin Underwood.  Information is that they were driving inside a vehicle in that area when they heard several gunshots and realized that they had been shot.  They were treated at the hospital and have since been released.  We have several persons in custody in regards to this investigation.”

“We do not know if they were pursued.  All we know is that when they passed in that particular area, the shots were fired at them.”
