Deannie Requena Recounts Ordeal of Violent Attack and Robbery
Former Belize City Councillor Deannie Requena recounted her harrowing experience after a brutal attack that occurred on Sunday, August 5, 2024, on the George Price Highway. Requena was discovered with severe stab wounds shortly after 1:30 PM. A passerby found Requena injured and disoriented near a police booth at mile 15. The Good Samaritan transported her to the Hattieville Police Station, where officers quickly arranged for her to be taken to the hospital.
Requena recounted the traumatic experience on social media. She expressed gratitude to the unidentified man and his child who helped her and described the emotional toll the attack has taken on her. Requena detailed the assault, which involved multiple attackers who also vandalised her vehicle, and stole $3,000 in cash and her iPhone.
Requena said, “An official report was filed last night with the Belize Police Department and they were caught. We are now waiting for them to be charged to the fullest extent. While one was stabbing and punching me, the other was breaking multiple glass on my vehicle and cutting the tires, stole $3,000 cash out of my purse and my iPhone. A weapon was pointed in my direction and I want the public to know this! While the injuries will heal, my mental state is damaged.
Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, has confirmed that suspects involved in the attack have been apprehended and are awaiting formal charges.
