“Boots” Returns to Port Loyola for A Final Hoorah
Today, we visited the Port Loyola constituency to speak with Anthony “Boots” Martinez. Martinez is a familiar face here, having served four terms as the area representative for the U.D.P. After running in Pickstock in 2020, he’s back in Port Loyola, hoping the community still has a soft spot for him. Martinez claims that the current Area Representative, Gilroy Usher, has let residents down by neglecting road repairs and housing projects.

“That is absolutely so. See this big place like Jane Usher Boulevard, one of the largest area geographically in this constituency, one house ih build in five years’ time in this whole area, if you move around this area you will see around forty to fifty of what they call Boots house. Dah nuh like I need fuh she.”

“One of the pains for residents in this constituency is road infrastructure. What is your commitment to road infrastructure?”
Anthony “Boots” Martinez
“In truth in Port Loyola here, I left this constituency in good hands. All the representative needed to do was maintain what is here. This street here I put this street in from nothing, with light, water, everything and as simple as you see it, it needs the constant maintenance just like Jane Usher Boulevard. It was properly paved but need maintenance. There was no lot of need in my view in Port Loyola for having a lot of new street, just maintain what is there. Including, apart from the new house, you see those house behind you, that was built by the PUP and the ministry of housing and the PUP mortgage it to social security. During my tenure they took all those houses from those people and what I did, I initiate with government to have the houses write off.”
