Drug-Smuggling Cat Caught by Guards at Costa Rica Prison
Costa Rican guards recently intercepted a cat smuggling drugs into a correctional facility. Its tiny body was strapped with marijuana and crack cocaine.
The black-and-white feline was caught earlier this month as it attempted to leap over the perimeter fence at a prison in Pococí canton, according to a statement from the Justice Ministry. The cat was carrying over 230 grams of marijuana and 67 grams of crack cocaine taped to its body in two small packages.
A video shared by authorities shows a prison guard climbing the outer fence to capture the cat. In a later clip, guards are seen carefully removing the packages from the animal while it rests on a prison table.
The cat has since been handed over to Costa Rica’s National Animal Health Service for evaluation.
