Traffic Accident in Belize City Claims Man’s Life

A man was knocked down and killed in Belize City this afternoon. The incident happened at the entrance of the Philip Goldson Highway near the bus stop. The incident happened around two while Ishmarley Clarke was driving a motorcycle heading from the direction of Belize City towards the A and R Store. A van was reportedly traveling behind him and was overtaking his motorcycle when it knocked him down. Clarke suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the K.H.M.H.

 

Jimmy Reyes Loses Life in Fatal RTA on Chan Pine Ridge Road

A motorist lost his life in the Orange Walk District on Sunday night while driving a vehicle along the Chan Pine Ridge Road.  Police say that Jimmy Reyes, the driver of a van carrying two other passengers, lost control, crashed and overturned several times before coming to rest.  Reyes suffered fatal injuries and died while being transported to the Northern Regional Hospital.

“On Sunday, March 10th, 2024, around 7:30 p.m., police visited Chan Pine Ridge Road where they saw the body of a male person on the street.  He was identified as Jimmy Reyes.  Information is that Jimmy Reyes was driving an Astro Van when he lost control of the vehicle which crashed and overturned and he sustained fatal injuries.  He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.  There were also two other persons along with him, Nasir Vasquez and Johann Valencia received minor injuries and were treated at the hospital.”

One Injured in Motorcycle Crash

At least one person was injured following a motorcycle crash on the Iguana Creek Road in the Cayo District. Video shows one man receiving medical attention at the scene. The victim has been identified as Mario Martinez. The other man who has been identified as alert Quell is unharmed. According to Quell, he was riding with his brother on Iguana Creek Road when Martinez came speeding into him. Quell says he was unable to avoid Martinez.

BREAKING: Belize Defence Force Vehicle Flips on Highway

A Belize Defence Force truck flipped earlier this afternoon as it was heading towards San Ignacio Santa Elena. The incident happened near mile 37. Witnesses say that four members of the BDF were injured and rushed to the nearest hospital. The soldiers were on their way to participate in this year’s La Ruta Maya canoe race which starts on Friday. This is a developing story.

 

 

Ladyville Youth Dies in RTA

A twenty-year-old Ladyville resident is dead following a road traffic accident on Sunday. According to reports, William Faux was riding his motorcycle on the Airport Road in Ladyville when he collided into a white SUV. Aux was flung from his bike and sustained severe injuries to the head and body. Unfortunately, the twenty-year-old died at the scene.  Police are yet to issue an official report on this incident.

Man Loses Life in Santa Elena RTA

One man is dead following a road traffic accident involving a taxi and a motorcycle on Saturday evening in Santa Elena Town. Twenty-seven-year-old Jorge Cocom was driving the taxi, while twenty-four-year-old Marvin Caceres was driving the motorcycle when both automobiles collided on George Price Avenue. Unfortunately, Caceres succumbed to his injuries. Cocom has since been served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution.  We spoke with Marvin’s brother, Melvin Caceras, over the phone. We also heard from ACP Hilberto Romero about the incident.

“Marvin just came from work. He passed my house and he and my next brother went to river to bath when I get a call saying that my little bro had an accident. I was in Benque and I came to Santa Elena and I saw the motroycle from my little bro and the vehicle of Jorge Cocom. He is a taxi driver. By that time I asked him what happened, he said he was going towards the car wash and my little brother was passing and he never saw them. He ran up into them. So I call my mom and she told me my little brother dead. Now Jorge Cocom he nuh get charged. He never get locked down. Now the problem is, they said why we pick up Marvin to take him to the hospital. They said we couldn’t pick him up. So, now ih look like they want to charge my cousin and wife because deh pick him up.”

“Police responded to reports of a fatal RTA at Santa Elena Town. Upon their arrival they saw a Toyota car with extensive damage. Also seen was a motorcycle with damages. The driver of the car was identified as Jorge Cocom and the drive of the motorcycle was identified as Marvin Caceras. Marvin Caseros was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. An investigation is being carried out at this time to determine if any charges will be levied.”

Orange Walk Father Dies in Wednesday Morning RTA

A resident of Orange Walk Town lost his life in a road traffic accident this morning. Reports are that forty-year-old Carlos Vargas lost control of his red Honda Accord while driving on the Blue Creek Road this morning. Vargas sustained multiple injuries to his lower body and head as a result of the collision. His vehicle also received extensive damage to its front portion. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Northern Regional Hospital. Vargas was a father and husband. Police are investigating.

Less Than a Week after Opening, Accident on the New Haulover Bridge

The spanking new Haulover Bridge was opened to vehicular traffic less than a week ago – four days to be exact, and already it has seen its first traffic accident. The fender bender occurred right around the five o’clock peak hour this evening and created a bottleneck for traffic on both approaches of the bridge. The two vehicles were travelling in the same direction, heading into Belize City when one, a red SUV crashed into the back of another SUV – a white one. The new Haulover Bridge, will be officially opened in March, when the railing for the pedestrian walk will be complete.
