Belize Secures BZ$1.9 Million in Technical Assistance for Climate-Resilient Cities

Belize has secured up to BZ$1.9 million in grant funding from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) to support the development of its Municipal Resiliency Initiative, a key step toward building climate-resilient urban centers across the country.

The grant will fund feasibility studies and consultancy services to assess climate vulnerability and strengthen infrastructure in municipalities including Dangriga, Orange Walk, Punta Gorda, and Corozal.

“This critical support from CABEI allows us to take a proactive step toward building municipalities that are better prepared for the climate realities we face,” said Carlos Pol, CEO in the Ministry of Economic Transformation (MET). “It also reflects our broader strategy to align local development with sustainable, inclusive, and climate-smart solutions.”

The initiative is a flagship project under MET’s economic and climate transformation agenda, aimed at equipping the government with data-driven insights to guide future investments in urban resilience.
