EU and IDB Invest in Belize to Boost Trade and Investment

The European Union (EU) is providing a €2 million grant to support Belize’s Trade and Investment Facilitation Program, in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which is contributing an additional €7 million loan.

The goal is to make it easier to do business in Belize by simplifying and digitalising trade and investment processes. Key features include a Single Investment Window and a Single Trade Window to cut costs and reduce delays.

The programme also includes the new Export Young Professional Programme, which aims to boost exports and build skills among young Belizeans. Support will also go to SMEs and women-led businesses through BELTRAIDE.

The funding will help Belize better manage trade documents online and improve how it handles licences, certificates, and permits. It will also support the implementation of trade agreements and training for officials.

This effort is part of wider plans to help Belize grow its economy, connect with global markets, and create more opportunities for its people.
