Is a Cuban Gold fugitive in Belize?

After two months of negotiations between the US and Belize thirty-four year old Cuban national Raonel Valdez is locked down in a Miami jail. The fugitive wanted in connection to the largest gold heist in Florida history was flown out of Belize this morning, and this afternoon was booked into the Turner Guildford Knight Correction Center. But Minister of Immigration, Godwin Hulse, apparently did not know that a police and immigration officer boarded Valdez on to the American Airlines flight. Valdez was heading to Miami on the eleven-thirty flight because just minutes before, he told the media that while Valdez is wanted by the U.S., Belize could not just hand him over.  Valdez is one of three men who cornered a gold courier in October 2012 and got away with one hundred and ten pounds of gold flakes, worth two point eight million dollars. He has been on the run for a year and a half, the subject of an intense manhunt. But in the end he was nabbed by an alert Belizean Immigration Officer while trying to cross the border from Guatemala into Belize. That officer checked his name on the internet and discovered that he was wanted in Florida. Belize didn’t want him, and allegedly neither did his home country Cuba, so after two months of discussions Valdez was deported today arriving in Miami at three-thirty this afternoon.
