Brandon ‘Battery’ Smith re-arraigned for attempted murder

Brandon ‘Battery’ Smith

Another man was also re-arraigned for charges today. No sooner had twenty-eight year old Brandon ‘Battery’ Smith been freed of attempted murder when he was brought back before the court to face the same charges.  On Monday, the chief magistrate dismissed a case against Brandon and Alrick Smith, following their arraignment in March 2013 for reportedly opening fire on a group of four police officers.  The incident succeeded the shooting death of Leon Humes in Belize City where law enforcement personnel were processing the scene.  According to police, both men were traveling inside a vehicle which drove up to the corner of Poinsettia and Black Orchid Street.  Upon pursuit, the occupants alighted the car and let loose a barrage of bullets.  When police returned fire, Alrick Smith was caught in the abdomen.  While he remains in prison serving a six month sentence, Battery was released two days ago, under the condition that the charges could be reinstated.  This morning, Smith was rearrested and escorted to court where he appeared before Magistrate Hettie Mae Stewart.  Despite questioning the reason for being placed on remand a second time for the same offence, he was read the charges.  Smith is on pretrial detention in Hattieville until June sixth, when he is scheduled to reappear in court.
