Belize City man charged for sexual assault

Justin Goff

A Belize City man was remanded today to the Belize Central prison for two weeks after he was accused of committing a sexual assault upon a female during which he also beat her up. The accused is twenty-six year old Justin Goff, a construction worker. This morning, Goff appeared before Magistrate Hettie Mae Stewart and was read two criminal offenses for wounding and sexual assault; he pleaded not guilty to both charges. The alleged victim claims Goff touched her inappropriately on her breast and that when she fought back, he punched her on the mouth. In court, police prosecutor, Sergeant Pablo Pikney, objected to bail due to the prevalence of the crime.  In his defense, Goff, who was very emotional, told Magistrate Stewart that he is innocent and that he has two children to care for, a girlfriend, and that he is their sole provider.  He also asked the court to grant him bail since he was renting a house and that without him, his family would become homeless. But the Magistrate remanded Goff into custody at the Belize Central prison until May sixteenth when he is due back in court.
