2 traffic fatalities in Belize District

Aside from the five persons who were murdered, two others died in traffic fatalities. There was a fatal traffic accident on Saturday night near mile nineteen and a half on the Phillip Goldson Highway, involving a commuter bus and a cyclist, was the last of three deadly collisions over the weekend.  Shortly after eight p.m. Raymond Sedacey, a resident of Sand Hill was knocked down as he rode his bicycle along the unlit stretch of road.  Reports are that a maroon and silver Tillett’s Bus, driven at the time by thirty-two-year-old Rafael Murillos, was traveling in the opposite direction when it struck Sedacey.  He was flung a distance away from the vehicle before it came to rest on the right hand side of the road.  Responding to the scene of the accident was Assistant Superintendent Christopher Noble.

“What we do know at this stage is that we have one male that has been confirmed deceased.  We have a passenger bus, fortunately it only had in two persons, a driver and one person accompanying him, traveling north.  We do know that the deceased may have been on a bicycle and we are looking into what may have caused his death whether direction, either way, is unclear to us at this time.  We are still looking into it. We are looking at a traffic fatality, we are asking people to be careful on the road, I mean the roads are not well lit so with the lighting condition, the lighting of the bus, if you are traveling on the bus make sure you have something that will be clear to anybody approaching you, clear to any vehicle approaching you and see how best you can be careful on this road, you know.”

According to Crawford he continued on his journey and later hit twenty-seven year old Mario Choc when he was blinded by an incoming vehicle. Choc received injuries to his head, leg and hand and died before midnight. Crawford has since been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
