Several shootings: in City and San Pedro

Alden Dawson

Twenty-one year old Glenford Alvarez, a resident of Supal Street, was the target of a lone gunman on Saturday morning.  Shortly before eleven a.m., Alvarez was riding a bicycle on Dolphin Street when someone approached him from behind and opened fire.  He was shot once on the left foot and rushed to the KHMH for medical treatment.  It is unclear whether Alvarez is the victim of an ongoing feud between rival gangs in the area.  According to Superintendent Alden Dawson, Officer Commanding Precinct One, they are still investigating the shooting and while they have not ruled out that it may have been the result of gang rivalry, they have made an arrest.

Supt. Alden Dawson, O.C. Precinct One, Police Department

“On Saturday, the twelfth of April sometime around eleven a.m., police were called out to a location where a shooting incident occurred just in front of the Wesley Upper School on Dolphin Street. We learned there that a young man, Glenford Alvarez, twenty-one year old of Supal Street was riding his bicycle from the direction of Raccoon Street towards North Creek when a lone gunman rode up behind him and fired a single shot from what appears to be a chrome in color nine millimeter pistol. That single shot caught him in the ankle and he was hospitalized. So far, we had managed to detain a person; he is in custody at this time and going through some interviews based on what we have learned from our canvassing.”

“Have you guys ascertained whether this is a result of some ongoing gang rivalry given the location?”

“…they’re speaking of Supal and George Street in particular.”

Supt. Alden Dawson

“Well because we do not have much information of the suspect we have in custody, I can’t readily say that it is. But we know for a fact there is an issue between the George Street, Supal Street people.”

It is expected that a charge of attempted murder will be laid against the individual in custody.

There was another shooting incident in the Bacalar Chico area of San Pedro. Miguel Fuentes, a fisherman of the Boca Del Rio area, was shot to the left hand and the right side of the back on Sunday. Fuentes was reportedly with two men walking on the beach when they were accosted by five men; one of them pulled out a firearm and shot at him. It is not known what the motive for that shooting was.
