Cordel is back in the P.U.P. ranks

Cordel Hyde

At the P.U.P. press conference held at Independence Hall on Thursday, there was much about governance matters and social concerns. But there were also some plain political talk. The P.U.P. has been dealing with conventions for standard bearers, and wants to be done with that by June. And one seat they are very comfortable with right now is Lake Independence. The news is that the man who turned that constituency into a sure seat for the P.U.P., Cordel Hyde, is back, and will be endorsed. And Fonseca also quite openly dealt with more distasteful internal politics, like the bickering in Cayo Central, where Luke Espat has squared off against Dan Silva.

Francis Fonseca, P.U.P. Leader

Francis Fonseca

“Mr. Hyde has applied to be a candidate for the People’s United Party in the Lake Independence Area, and the national Executive of the party has approved that application subject to one meeting that we will have. But yes that is the case that Cordel Hyde is in fact the only applicant for Lake Independence and will in fact at some later date…that date has not yet been determined…but at some future date will be sworn in as the P.U.P. Standard Bearer in Lake Independence.”

“Mr. Dan Silva is accusing the party executive of playing favourites with his opponent Mr. Luke Espat. He is saying that his suggestion of a better location for the convention was turned down for a location that isn’t very well suited.”

Francis Fonseca

“I reject that outright. There is absolutely no favouritism towards Mr. Luke Espat. In fact he consistently accuses me of not wanting him to run…on a very consistent basis. In the case of the venue now, we’re really dealing with internal party issues…the venue for conventions is a matter which is governed by the constitution of the People’s United Party. It is a matter which falls under the authority of the Chairman of the Party. The Chairman went down to Cayo Central to meet with the parties sometime last week, I believe and the truth is that they could not agree. One side wanted one school and the other side wanted another school and those things always arise in heated conventions. And the Chairman of the Party, Mr. Henry Usher, ultimately had to make the decision because we have to have the convention somewhere.”

Fonseca also confirmed that attorney Kareem Musa, son of former Prime Minister Said Musa, has applied to run for Standard Bearer for the Caribbean Shores constituency.

So then why did the chairman of the PUP go in favour for Espats choice when 7 out of 9 of the Cayo central executive board chose the venue that Silva’s team believes is best fit for the convention? In my opinion, Fonseca di speak lone mada #%^

Judas returns. The long-standing saga of the privileged sobs continues in party politics. He screws us royally and he is right back where he thinks he is entitled to be. The grip of Said Musa on George Price’s beloved PUP continues. A day of shame, for sure. I guess this means: Welcome back whore! SMH!

  3. Georgie says:

The Party in any division is not Luke Espat, Henry Usher nor any one from the City. It is the PUPs of that division led by the executive of that division…and the Cayo Central Executive is not being respected. The decisions are being made form Belize City.

  4. Joe Blank says:

You go Dan Silva. The PUP needs diversity and independent-minded area reps. And we don’t need crooks like Luke Espat. People like him have royally screwed the party supporters in the pass. These are the PUPs of the past. These are the members of the party of few rather than the party of many. So, please Dan Silva, send Luke Espat to his political grave. We do not want any more thieves. Out with them!
