CitCo owes Belize Maintenance Limited approximately $3.5 Million
Mayor Darrell Bradley – it’s probably a good thing he’s an attorney and can represent himself in court because he’s there a lot. As News Five told you on Tuesday, the Mayor goes back to court on Friday, when he is expected to provide a definitive solution to perpetual arrears to sanitation company, Belize Waste Control. Currently, City Hall is in six weeks arrears, close to three hundred thousand dollars. That’s headache enough, but BWC’s attorney, Eamon Courtenay, announced that he will also be filing suit against the Mayor for breach of a previous settlement agreement. And there’s more….Today, News Five was able to confirm that the Belize City Council also owes Belize Maintenance Limited approximately three point five million dollars. A significant portion of that is a judgment against the Council for an old debt which has not been addressed, but the company is also owed eleven weeks payments. There is word tonight that BML, like BWC, is now prepared to play hard-ball after continuous attempts to reach settlement have failed. That seems like overwhelming financial woes for City Hall, but there’s still more. Late this evening, News Five was also able to confirm that the Council owes another contractor one million dollars, and he is agitating for settlement as well.
This is the hypocrisy of government. They can owe you money till you turn 90. You try owing them money. They will absolutely destroy you! Shame!!
