Dangriga marketplace project to resume

After months of delay, work on the Dangriga Town Market is set to resume.  A new agreement for the completion of the project was signed on March twenty-fourth, between newly appointed Executive Director William Lamb Jr. and representatives of CB Construction.  The contract with the San Ignacio-based company is valued at a little over one point two million dollars.  On Wednesday, a formal handing over is set to take place in Dangriga.  The deadline for the refurbishing of the market has also been finalized.  CB Construction, it is expected, will complete the work within the next six months.  The expansion of the market will include the rehabilitation of existing concrete of the building, including the fish section.  An additional area of two thousand square feet will provide over forty stalls and will also be included to accommodate vendors who are currently occupying the market’s parking lot.  The project came to an abrupt halt in September 2013, when it was first revealed that there were financial irregularities, on the part of the previous administration, during the project.  Under the Belize Municipal Development Project, the Dangriga Market Project is one of the largest infrastructure initiatives, with counterpart funding from the Dangriga Town Council and a loan from the World Bank.
