Belize City man robbed and shot to the head on the eve of his birthday
The past weekend turned violent for three families whose loved ones were killed. Early this morning a man was found dead in a latrine at a school in Guinea Grass, Orange Walk District and on Saturday, the body of a US retiree was found with gunshot wounds at his farm in Sarteneja. But on Sunday night here in the City, Hector Dean Lyons was shot and killed as he sat on his steps of his house between Water Lane and Orange Street. Lyons was murdered before eight o’clock by a gunman who rode up, took his wallet and fired a single shot which penetrated Lyons’ head. He would have celebrated his fifty-seventh birthday today. Duane Moody has this story.

Around seven-thirty on Sunday night, the blast of a single gunshot echoed near downtown Belize City; a man was shot dead…execution style. Hector Dean Lyons also known as “Bad Cyaad” was to turn fifty-seven today, but just hours before as he socialized with a friend on West Canal, his life was viciously taken.
Supt. Alden Dawson, O.C., Precinct 1, Belize City Police
“Police visited a location on West Canal between Water Lane and Orange Street where they saw the lifeless body of Hector Dean Lyons, fifty-seven year old of ninety-eight Cemetery Road, with a single gunshot to the left side of his head. Investigations reveal to this point that a young man, dark complexion, rode on a bicycle and probably had a short conversation with the deceased, we think he made demands of his wallet and thereafter fired the said fatal wound to the head causing the life of the deceased.”
Within minutes, the news of the murder reached his wife, Lola Flowers, who was released earlier that day from the K.H.M.H. Flowers had to be rushed back to the hospital.

Flowers last spoke with Lyons around four p.m., about three hours before he was killed. She says Lyons had won Sunday’s Boledo Draw and that he was targeted because of the monies he carried on him. Police say that the motive appears to be robbery.

No person has been detained in this homicide. Duane Moody for News Five.
News Five understands that the police are currently reviewing surveillance footage from cameras in the area that they believe can assist them in capturing the perpetrator.
With this pm and gov. Someone’s life is not worth .10 cents what a useless pm and gov. Now we are close to 2000 murders and this gov. Keep saying crime is down .
U cannot just blame the Government for the senseless crimes that are occurring on the streets of Belize City. Most of the time when crime happens, the general public have knowledge of who the perpetrators are and refuse to cooperate with the law enforcement authorities. Its like the public is supporting crime. There are measures in place to give information such as calling 0800-922-TIPS (0800-922-8477) and remain anonymous. The Police are trying their best however, they cannot work without the assistance of the Public.
I know this guy! Lyons Bakery from back in the day. many of you may too young to remember.
Rod,
If you cannot find something else better to say, please don’t say anything. You want to blame the government for everything that happen. And just for your information, I am no UDP fan but your comments really don’t make any sense. I reckon that you really don’t have anything to do but to think stupidness. Please find something worthwhile to do than to take up precious space on the net.
WE ALL KNOW THAT NO MATTER HOW MUCH U BLAME THE GOV THEY WONT CARE, WE NEED TO SATRT LOOKING OUT FOR EACH OTHER AND START TO BE OUR BROTHERS KEEPER. WHETHER U WANT ACCEPT IT OR NOT EVERTHING BOILS DOWN TO POLITIC; POLITICS DICTATES WHAT WILL BE OUR NEXT MEAL OR IF WE WILL STILL HAVE A JOB TOMARO… SOMETHING DRASTIC NEEDS TO BE DONE AND TO BE DONE FAST BCAZ THIS BELIZE WE CALL JEWEL WILL BE CALL SAFARI.
