President-Elect of El Salvador visits Belize

President Elect of El Salvador, Salvador Sanchez Ceren, arrived in the country on Friday and reportedly left on Saturday afternoon after meeting with Salvadorans living in Belize. It wasn’t exactly a state visit, since Sanchez will not take office until current president Mauricio Funes’ term ends on June first. Hundreds of Salvadorans were bussed to that country in February to vote for Sanchez, who was FMLN’s presidential candidate. After a second round of voting on March ninth, Sanchez was declared victorious, garnering fifty point one-one percent of the votes; his opponent, Norman Quijano, received forty-nine point eight-nine of the votes. That’s a narrow margin of victory, and News Five understands that the primary reason for Sanchez’s visit was to express gratitude to those nationals who went home to vote for him. We have also been informed that President-elect Sanchez met with government officials including Prime Minister Dean Barrow at his office on Coney Drive.
Nice of him to come. Even nicer of him to keep it low-profile and to leave quickly. The Guatemalan right-wing have no love for Sanchez Ceren. And like Bob says, We Don’t Need No More Trouble.
Barrow and the vast majority of you Belizeans need to visit El Salvador to see how a thriving and growing democratic society functions. The quality of life is way better for half the cost. You all need to see what paved roads, shopping centers, secured educational institutions and real grocery stores look like.
