P.U.P. writes National Security Minister on amendment to Firearms Act
The issue did not make it in the Minister’s presentation during the budget debate, but today the People’s United Party wrote Minister of National Security, John Saldivar, for an update on the proposed amendments to the Firearms Act and Crime Control and Criminal Justice Act. Writing as legal advisor to the P.U.P., Attorney and Senator, Anthony Sylvestre reminds Saldivar that the party proposed amendments on February twelfth but has not received any response and neither has the P.U.P. been informed of any consultations which were promised in light of the necessary amendments. The Firearms act came under scrutiny in January when Corporal Gino Peck was charged, tried and convicted. At the time the general public felt that the laws were too stifling and draconian and needed to be revisited.
