Home of Deputy P.U.P. Leader Julius Espat burglarized

Julius Espat

On Sunday morning, there was a burglary in Belize City. Now that’s nothing out of the ordinary, but in this case the victim was a well-known politician and the burglary seemed focused. We say that because when the home of Cayo South Area Representative Julius Espat was breached, the burglar or burglars took only two laptops out of Espat’s office, along with his newly written debate presentation. Today News Five spoke to Espat who told us that he has no doubt that it’s not a run of the mill breaking and entering.

Julius Espat, Cayo South Area Rep

“Well I was working late, preparing my speech. I forgot to put on the alarm, went to sleep and my wife alerted me that there was something upstairs in the house; the dog alerted us. And so I took out my weapon and tried to find out what was happening. And we didn’t find any, so we put on the alarm and went back to sleep. In the morning, we got up and I wanted to practice my speech and I asked my wife, where did she put the speech. And she said, she didn’t touch it. And then we realized that the two laptop computers that I was working on last night and the speech miraculously disappeared. I eventually found where they came from; it was a window that didn’t have any protection. So I went on the roof to find where it was and I alerted the police and then we had to do what we needed to do to shut down the computers. We had to contact Apple Computer, we had to change all our passwords; we had to do what we had to do. But nothing else was stolen; there was some money around, there was other things around of value, but it seems like they only came with one intent so.”

It just so happened that Espat was tired and forgot to turn on the security alarm…he got up when they heard a noise upstairs the dogs alerted them. Nothing was taken except the two lap tops and his speech.. WTF. Obviously this is BS.. Why would anyone risk breaking and entering for his speech that was going to be presented the next day. In addition, the intruder had the good fortune to know in advance that Espat would have forgotten to turn the alarm on. Belize kriol proverb Fool di talk but da noh fool di listen. Anyone who believes Espat’s story, I have a bridge in Brooklyn that I want to sell..
