A four-car pileup along the Boom Road

Christopher Noble

Just a few moments prior to the deadly traffic accident which claimed the lives of three year old Ashley Silva and twenty year old Linbert Tucker, there was a four car pileup along the Boom Road. Though not fatal, the responding officers, already stretched thin having to work the La Ruta Maya event, were forced to make a judgment call based on the risk levels.  While Ladyville police prioritized that collision, they are appealing to motorists involved in the Tucker accident to come forward with an official statement so that they can proceed with an investigation into the cause of the pile-up.  Unfortunately, those incidents would not be the only ones within the Rural Executive Officer’s jurisdiction.  He told us more.

ASP Christopher Noble, Rural Executive Officer

“We did have information and I did go past an accident where apparently one driver may have bumped into one and that bumped into another.  It caused a chain reaction of, I think, four vehicles.  We are asking the persons to come forward because that was subsequent to the, well simultaneous to the fatality and we took priority [with] the fatality.  It was not because we wanted to leave them out there but lives were at risk and we had to deal with that.  We’re just asking that they now come forward so we could establish what was the cause of it.  It was, I believe, four vehicles.  We do have also another incident in Burrell Boom where a motorcycle rider may have either fallen off his motorcycle or hit somebody and fell off his motorcycle.  The police officers in that area have identified who that person is and we’ll be getting the statement and see how best we can work it out, you know.  There was another incident in Bermudian Landing Saturday night, four females and two kids in a vehicle and the vehicle overturned.  They overturned about a hundred feet from the police station.  But again, what they were thinking avoids me but to say that it did happen you can see that at some point these accidents have a high level of negligence on the part of the drivers.”

Aside from the death of Ashley Silva, Linbert Tucker and Jose Martinez, we have recorded eight others deaths since the beginning of 2014: Lennox Garbutt, Jose Elmer Villanueva, John Wade, Jose Flamenco, Anthony Hunter, Wilfredo Jaime, Antonio Mejia and Marcelo Aguilar.
