Oliver Peters arraigned for his uncle’s murder

Oliver Peters

While Smith has been freed of a murder charge, thirty-seven year old Oliver Peters has been arraigned for murder. Peters is accused of stabbing his uncle to the left side of the chest in a bitter land dispute; the injury eventually led to Thomas Ferguson Senior’s death. Today, Peters was arraigned and read a single charge of murder.  On December seventh, 2013, Ferguson Senior was stabbed by Peters; more than two months later in February, Ferguson Senior died from injuries sustained. Peters was originally charged for attempted murder, dangerous harm, and use of deadly means, but that charge was upgraded today to murder in the court of Magistrate Dale Cayetano. Peters was unrepresented when he appeared in court and did not seem to show remorse. According to Ferguson’s wife, the two had been arguing over a parcel of land on which both nephew and uncle lived. Peters was today further remanded to the Belize Central Prison and he is not due back in court again until April twenty-third, 2014.
