Man acquitted of murder; so who killed “Killa” Gentle?

After more than four years on remand for the January twelfth, 2011 execution style murder of Kraal Road leader, Raymond “Killa” Gentle, one of two accused men was found not guilty of murder. The decision was handed down by Justice Adolph Lucas on Wednesday. In acquitting Corwin Bennett, Justice Lucas noted that while he believed that the accused gave two oral and two written statements, the crown did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the two statements given to police were true and that Bennett had murdered Gentle. Bennett was overjoyed by the decision and after being met by his mother, he was whisked away in a taxi.  So then, who killed “Killa” Gentle as he was working on a house near Kraal Road?  According to the crown evidence in the trial, Bennett in one of his statements told the police that he was the shooter.  Then, in another statement, he told them he had only accompanied the shooter to commit the crime. In a statement from the dock, Bennett told the court that the only reason he gave the statements to police was because he was allegedly threatened by a well-known George Street associate, who he claimed warned him that if he did not take the rap, he would be killed.
