Elderly man who fell from bus dies

Jose Elmer Villanueva

Another victim of a traffic accident, Jose Elmer Villanueva, succumbed just prior to the passing of Earl Flores Junior. The sixty-three year old was seriously injured last Tuesday when he fell out of a moving bus belonging to the J and J bus line, which was on a regular run to Chetumal. The elderly man fell through the open door onto the highway near Burrell Boom cutoff with the Northern Highway. News Five spoke today with Rural Executive Officer, Assistant Superintendent Christopher Noble, who says that they are in the process of taking statements from passengers with the intent to pursue charges against the driver of the bus.

ASP Christopher Noble, Rural Executive Officer, Police Department

“We did manage to get all relevant information from that scene; the driver was very cooperative; we did get all our statements. We are asking that persons who were on the bus that may have seen what transpired come forward for us; they can go to any station and say you were on that bus and I am certain that we can arrange for the recording of a statement for file purposes to assist in the investigation. The gentleman passed away sometime earlier today and we are preparing for an autopsy at this stage.”

“Is it likely sir that that charge will be upgraded to…”

ASP Christopher Noble

“There was no charge at the initial stage; he was served with a notice. And we are looking into what may have caused it which is why we are making an appeal that if there is somebody coming forward, it would assist us.”

Rest in peace my friend my total condolances to the family

  2. Truth says:

Rest in Peace Sr. JOSE ELMER VILLANUEVA. The ignorance and incompetence, lack of common sense in our Minister’s and Ministry of Transport for Belizean’s who commute to all areas of the country has once more claimed a life.

Does the life of our Belizean people mean nothing to you, The persons that have the responsibility to ensure that the bus are in condition to run, properly timed bus schedules to ensure that the persons that need to reach home don’t have the need to stuff themselves beyond the capacity of the bus. The need to increase the number of Buses and the Road condition so the Bus Owners that have a few buses in capacity to run continue to run and not spend most of the time repairing the bus due to horrendous and deplorable road conditions but instead buy new ones that will alleviate the screwed up transport environment that exists.

It’s Just Sad that the persons who can do something about this do nothing about it but squander the finances in selfish gain while the Belizean people continue to struggle. What else must continue to happen for you to do something.. What???
