Three detained in Barton Creek double murder

A double homicide in the Cayo district has left police with more questions than answers. According to San Ignacio Police around five-thirty on Sunday morning they were called out to a ranch situated off the lower Barton Creek Road. Authorities say as they approached the compound they came across the first body, lying face down on the ground with what appeared to be multiple chop wounds. As police continued to search the premises they entered a small house, where, on a bed they discovered the second corpse. It had several stab wounds to the chest. Both of the deceased have been described as Hispanic men believed to be caretakers of the farm, which is owned by a U.S. citizen. One the men has since been identified as sixty-five year old Ricardo Flores, a resident of Santa Elena, Cayo. Police have detained three persons in connection with the incident. The murders are number fourteen and fifteen for 2006, but viewers should note that the entire month of March saw only one homicide in the entire country, the lowest monthly body count in recent memory.
