Gang rivalry ends with a Belize City youth shot in the back

While the Ladyville police have two persons detained for questioning in regards to the shooting at the basketball court, the Belize City police are investigating a shooting on Saturday morning which is gang related. Sometime around two-thirty a.m., twenty-seven year old Robert Tracy, a known PIV affiliate, was walking on Central American Boulevard when he was shot to the back. Tracy, a resident of a Hibiscus Street Address in the Saint Martin’s Area, was rushed to the K.H.M.H., was treated and released. According to the officer commanding Precinct One of the Belize City Police Department, Superintendent Alden Dawson, the shooting was as a result of an incident that occurred early on Newtown Barracks between two rivaling gang groups.

Supt. Alden Dawson, O.C., Precinct 1, Belize City Police Department

“Mister Tracy was walking on Central American Boulevard heading in the direction of Neal Penn Road and upon reaching at the junction of Central American Boulevard and Boots Crescent, he was fired upon. Several shots he heard and realized that he was hit in the back with one of those bullets. The police went on the scene and retrieved six expended nine millimeter shells. Mister Tracy has since been treated and released from the hospital. The investigation is ongoing but so far we believe that it was an incident that stemmed from the nightclub on Newtown barracks earlier the said night.”

“Do you have any details of that incident that you can share with us?”

Alden Dawson

“No I am not really familiar with the incident that occurred. I know that there was some altercation among different gang members, somewhere in front of the club and that could have led to this incident.”

Duane Moody

“So gang rivalry?”

Alden Dawson

“Some gang rivalry in front of the club yes.”

“Sir so has anyone been detained?”

Alden Dawson

“So far in respect to this incident, no one has been detained so far.”
