Reynaldo Verde makes a statement on details of firearm incident

The issue of revising the existing gun laws, in light of the recent conviction of police corporal Gino Peck for possession of unlicensed ammunition, has taken center stage in recent weeks.  Peck’s case is frequently compared to that of GST Supervisor Reynaldo Verde, whom it is alleged that an unlicensed firearm was discovered by police near his property earlier this year on January third.  While Peck’s trial and subsequent conviction seemingly placed him at a disadvantage, opponents of the gun laws argue that Verde appears to be above the law since he was never arrested or charged for the discovery of the illegal handgun.  Notwithstanding the ensuing arguments, both cases serve to draw attention to the disparity in the firearms act.  Throughout the hoopla, Verde remained silent, choosing not to comment publicly on the situation.  That was until today when he published a press release detailing the events of the night in question.  According to Verde, the weapon was never found in his property and that he believes it may have been planted there by someone whom he saw climbing a neighbor’s fence moments earlier.  When police came knocking the following morning, the senior public officer explained to them what he had witnessed the night before.  His account was reportedly corroborated by his neighbors in a statement provided to the Director of Public Prosecutions.  The officers, he says, exercised proper judgment by not pursuing charges.  Verde concludes his statement by saying that he too is in support of a revision of the gun laws.
