Still no reaction from the B.N.T.U. on 4% salary adjustments

After crunching the numbers, the Prime Minister said on Wednesday in the House that the quantum in salary adjustments for teachers would not be less than four percent. The Belize National Teachers Union has so far not reacted because it has to go back to its membership, but it is known they were banking on a higher percentage. But in the often dicey relations with the Minister of Education, the B.N.T.U. issued a release today in respect of a public statement purportedly made by the Minister on Love FM. Minister Patrick Faber reportedly told that media house that the union had accepted and is happy with the figure for salary adjustment provided by the PM at a meeting on January thirtieth. The B.N.T.U. clarifies that three issues were discussed in the said meeting: its letter for an audience to discuss salary adjustment proposals; an update on revenue performance as of December thirty-first 2013, a forecast for the last quarter of the fiscal year and the issue of a floor requested in the salary adjustment counter proposal.  The B.N.T.U. says that at no time did any member of the team express acceptance or delight in the report but it is expressing dissatisfaction with what the Minister purportedly said.
