Accused Murderer, Edwin Paula, escapes and is on the run

On June fifth, four persons were formally arraigned for murder and attempted murder after a brazen robbery attempt at a bar in Belmopan. Three of them were fourth form students at the Belmopan Comprehensive School, just days away from graduation, and the fourth was twenty-nine year old Edwin Paula. Paula is believed to have been the mastermind of several brazen robberies in the area, including a robbery at the University of Belize dormitory on campus. It is believed that the students were a part of his gang. But there is confirmation tonight that Paula is on the run after he escaped on Monday. At about four-thirty p.m., the Police prison van was transporting Paula and the three students from the Belize Central Prison to Belmopan, where they were due to appear in court this morning. The van stopped at a pedestrian ramp in Cotton Tree, and while there are no specific details, somehow Paula, who was secured inside the van, managed to jump out and escape. Officer Commanding the Belmopan Police Formation Assistant Superintendent Sinquest Martinez told News Five today that there is currently an extensive manhunt for Paula, and it is believed that he will be back in custody soon. The other three men facing charges with Paula, eighteen year old Manuel Hernandez, nineteen year old Rasheed Crespo and eighteen year old Rudy Santos, appeared in Belmopan Magistrate’s Court this morning where their case was adjourned.

How did he escaped!!! Police are involved!!! They should investigate the same Police THAT LET HIM GO!!! Common sense tells you that if someone has escape like this before; why is it that the Police Dept. have not looked at other ways to secure these person when transporting them to court! The media should not only have this on there NEWSCAST but also follow-up or go interview those police who let the person go. Just thick about it BELIZE!!!!!!!!!!!

This is crap! The officer(s) responsible for this should be dismissed. The punishment for these offenses are never handled the way they should so it will keep happening and the public will for ever be more endangered by these acts.

No one in any position of authority seems to have any love for country! The title for a Clint Eastwood movie “For a Few Dollars More” comes to mind when I hear this type of mess but then another movie title also comes to mind “Hang ‘Em High”.
