Activists garner support and speak on series of injustices caused by the gun law

Delroy Herrera

Also at the head table of today’s press conference was the former Acting Supplies Manager at K.H.M.H., Delroy Herrera. Herrera blew the whistle on the irregular purchasing of supplies and the mismanagement of funds at the hospital during the period of January 2008 to June 2009. His actions triggered a Commission of Inquiry. Well, it has been some time since Herrera has been heard from, but today, he expressed his support for Roberts fight. Herrera, who spared no words, listed out a series of injustices caused by the current gun laws, including the most recent case involving the Nasser family in San Pedro. Herrera says it is corruption.

“You have to investigate the situation before you actually place a charge. So my question to the D.P.P. is where is the proper investigation for Natalie Coleman for the five people weh get charge from South Side including the minor? Weh the investigation deh fi the nurse weh get remanded because wah gun get stashed dah ih house? Weh the proper investigation deh fi di whole Meighan family weh di bawl and tell the people that the GSU plant two bullets? Weh the proper investigation fi one live round weh Mister John BernardJunior gone up for? An eight months mother, eight months….ih fourteen year old left to mind a six year old. The system actually make the parents abandon dehn child because of how the system set. Six people on Victoria Street actually get charge fi wah gun weh get left ina wah loft dah wah church across the side but the beam heng over your side, so you get charged fi that. Watch on Miss Carolee Rhaburn di cry. How much people noh say, yo know what the GSU or the police department plant something pan mi? How much people noh bawl that same cry. Lotta people bawl the same cry, but certain people have certain privilege and I deh yah fi say, if the law deh deh, then make we execute the law to the full extent of the law. Noh give certain people privilege and give the rest…I noh want say the word. I noh di say we noh have bad people ina our society. I noh the say we noh have bad people, but the good di suffer for the bad far too long. Yo got teachers weh di teach ina dehn classroom when dehn find gun ina ih house and they actually go and take the woman out of the classroom and lock ahn down. Come on mein; come on. What? She noh got political ties? And any government…ant government—whether dah P.U.P. government deh in or U.D.P. government deh in—this law needs to be revised or strike out of the books. How much more people lives need to get ruin before we actually se weh di go on? Come on Mister Prime Minister, for god’s sake, wake up. Wake up man!”

The Gun law is working fine..too much parents condoning their children in wrong doing and too much children not loving their parents and family enough that they actually keep a gun at their residence knowing the consequence if caught. And the last persons any-one should use as examples are the Mieghan Family as those two boys have wreaked havoc on this blessed city..killed woman, man and child.

I agree the laws are “IGNORANT”!!! If a person of 18yrs of age has no felony; SHOULD be able to own a GUN legally!!! It seems like all the residents of Belize will need a gun to protect their “OWN LIFE” from the CORRUPT GSU and the Police in Belize who are very much apart of the corrupted system… A person “responsible adult” should be able to own a GUN and ammo!! So what is the problem and why are yall not fight’g for that right??
