E.P. Yorke teacher drives off in a spanking new 2014 Toyota Hilux

Samuel Nicholson, a high school teacher at E.P. Yorke, is the lucky winner of a 2014 Toyota Hilux.  He won the annual Rotary Christmas Raffle after purchasing a single ticket to enter the draw.  Nicholson found out that he had won the prize on December twenty-third but did not receive the keys to vehicle until this afternoon, during an official handing over ceremony.  According to Nicholson, he is still in shock that he has won the vehicle.

“I’m still in amazement.  I feel as though, I never thought that something like this would have happened to me, you know.  I bought the ticket and now actually seeing the vehicle in front of me I could say that I actually won this vehicle.  So I’m still in a bit of shock but I’m getting there.”

“Okay.  Now have you accustomed yourself to it?  Have you gone inside?  I see your teacher colleagues have been taking pictures in front of it and wish they could take pictures inside.  Have you done it?”

“No, not as yet.  I feel as though I’m just trying to take the backseat for now, getting people all involved.  I feel as though it’s a good thing though.  One of my biggest things about it is, you know, I won it and it’s blessings.  So all I need to say is, you know, continue to do good and good will follow you, you know.”

“Now, you don’t drive standard and it’s a five speed standard.  Is this something that concerns you or might you just want to hand it over to me now?”

Samuel Nicholson

“Well to be honest what I want to do.  In this event now I need to learn how to drive that standard.  I need to at least, you know, I don’t believe in, you know, giving away blessings.  To me it’s like a blessing in disguise so for me to just give it away it would be unfortunate.  So I believe, you know, it’s a challenge.  2014, standard here I come.”

The annual raffle is a means for the Rotary Club of Belize to raise funds towards its various initiatives.
