…And discusses the record number of birthday at the hospital

The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in 2013 had a record number of births with approximately seven hundred and ninety-eight normal deliveries and over eight hundred via C-Section; in December alone, there were one hundred and seventy-eight deliveries. But even more impressive is that for the second year, the hospital has had zero percent maternal mortality and C.E.O. at the K.H.M.H., Doctor Gary Longsworth was candid enough to share those statistics with the media.

“We’ve done; last year we did one thousand seven hundred eighty-nine deliveries in this hospital of which eight hundred and thirteen were C-sections. Our survival rates are extremely high, in the ninety percentile. This last year in fact, Belize celebrated another year of zero maternal mortality and that is the second time in the last three to four years that we have been able to do that. And it is not because we didn’t have difficulties; we had extremely difficult cases and when we look at it, we think that some of those cases should not have survived, but thanks to the teamwork, thanks to government support, ministry of health’s support, we were able to do that. And that is our aim every day of the year; is to do the best that we can, get the best results that we can. And in the main, I think that we are doing an excellent job and I can only congratulate my staff.”
