Miss World Belize places in regional pageant
Miss Trifinio Mundo…the pageant was held this weekend in Honduras and features some seven delegates from the Central American countries including Mexico. The pageant promotes the point where the borders of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras meet. This is the first year that the pageant has been open to country outside of the aforementioned three and representing the jewel was twenty-three year old Idolly Saldivar, the current title holder of Miss World Belize. Saldivar left for the competition on Christmas Day and after several rounds of competition in swimwear, costume and evening wear as well as the dreaded question and answer, Saldivar says she was the one to beat. Nevertheless, she came in second and was recognized for her eloquence and voted as Miss Amity.

“I am excited. I cried. I’ll be honest I cried on stage the moment I realized that… I stood there holding Miss Panama’s hand and I started shedding tears because at that point I realized that I could take it all. And the entire experience was wonderful. I don’t speak fluent Spanish—I understand it and I tried communicating with them and that’s how I got Miss Amity, Miss Amistad. I almost cried actually when I got Miss Amity. I was emotional the entire night just being there and winning these two things. As Miss World Belize, they selected me to represent Belize the Friday before I only had about four days to prepare. Countries like El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, they participate in this pageant every year. It used to be only for the three countries and this is the first year that they decided to expand it. My preparation…I went to Miss World and I had my dresses, everything and my shoes. There I had a bit of a problem like backstage because I didn’t have anyone to help me. All the other girls had someone to help them with makeup and to change their clothes. On the night of the pageant, they had first the costume segment, then they had the opening dance, the swimsuit, then evening gown. I just want to tell people don’t give up. I went to this pageant; I didn’t expect to place, but I still tried my very best and I guess that’s what the judges saw and what everyone realized that yes this little black girl is trying her best to represent her country.”
Saldivar has represented Belize in several international competitions including Miss Piel Dorada, Miss World and Miss Costa Maya.
Congratulations!!! You are one of the best, if not the best Miss Belize!!!
Your uncle Hon. John Saldivar must be proud.
