Man convicted for Attempted Murder

A Punta Gorda man was convicted today in the Dangriga Supreme Court for the attempted murder of Moses Williams.  Thirty-five year old Lawrence Cholom was tried in late November in a trial by judge alone in the court of Justice Denis S. Hanomansingh. Williams was stabbed once on August twenty-ninth, 2010 in Big Falls Village, Toledo. Today, Justice Hanomansingh who had already heard the evidence, concluded that Cholom was guilty of the crime of attempted murder. The stabbing happened at the junction of the rice hill road in the Big Falls Village at around two-thirty p.m. more than three years ago. Cholom, chopped Williams with a machete in the abdominal area. Williams later had to undergo surgery at the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital.  Prosecutor in the case was Senior Crown Council Cecil Ramirez, who called several witnesses to the stand to testify against Cholom, including Williams. In court, the victim relayed his near death ordeal and before leaving the stand, Williams identified Cholom as the man who attacked and chopped him. Cholom told the court that he and Williams had a struggle and that he later saw Williams bleeding. He never admitted to causing Williams injuries but his statement was not convincing enough for Justice Hanomansingh and he was found guilty of the charge of attempted murder. Sentencing has been deferred to December seventeenth, 2013.
