B.S.I. former employees rehired
The workers, says Gongora, were released without being given a sufficient reason. Thankfully, he says, the situation was resolved amicably.
Ramiro Gongora, President, Belize Workers Union
“We were not given a specific reason but they just said that their jobs had finished, you know, because these persons that were instructed that there are no jobs for them are the sprayers and the froghopper crew were the ones that were released, about twenty-four of them total. But, as I can say, they were reemployed and we’re just thankful that they had a good outcome with BSI management, you know, that they believed that they did make a mistake by not informing the union. So we stayed with that and we would like to just continue this good relationship with BSI in respect of our negotiation process for these employees.”
So tonight, the twenty-four employees are back on the job.
