Dean Samuel contesting Belize Rural Central

Dean Samuels

As we said on Friday, U.D.P. aspirants for national elections have submitted their names to the secretariat. Among those who have interest in running in the national elections is councilor, Dean Samuels. It’s a crowded field in Belize Rural Central where Samuels will have to beat at least five others including Beverly Castillo, former C.E.O. of the Ministry of Natural Resources who has now turned politician and the current caretaker, Michael Hutchinson. That’s on the U.D.P. side because veteran politician, Dolores Balderamos, the only woman in the house, is the current area representative. Samuels says he is undeterred and believes that his political background will get him through.

Dean Samuels, Contesting for U.D.P., Belize Rural Central

“Rural Central is very dare to my heart; it is just outside of Belize City. I believe that I’ve always shown to my peers and colleagues that I am all about hard work, humble. And at the end of the day, I feel that my work ethics, I can see that it fits hand in hand with the needs of rural central. And for me to get into rural central, I presently reside in rural central. I think definitely I could bring the same personality, mentality and definitely rural central can see development and can see change. So I’ve decided to put my name in for the rural central area. I have been tested already, I have proven myself already that I am about hard work and that alone, I can stand. I am not coming to no one telling them what they want to hear. I don’t play politics really—in the sense of political clichés or rhetoric. I won’t promise anyone what I cannot give them; that’s not my persona. I believe that people just want to be heard sometimes, want to see you, want you to be accessible to them. I think that any politician that understands their job description can never lose. And I have never forgotten who I am and my job description.”

The convention will be held sometime before March of 2014 says Samuels and he is already on the campaign trail to secure his spot in Belize rural central.

All the areas should be contested by new, young and dynamic aspirants. ALL. New blood, new ideas, new leadership. All present elected officials should have their posts contested. We need to clean slate. Only way to move forward and put a halt to corruption.
