James Adderly takes a look back at football, cycling and boxing

Good evening I’m James Adderly and this is Sports Monday. Week 5 back matches in the Belikin Cup were staged this weekend so here in Belize city F.C. Belize took on the surging Verdes FC inside the MCC Grounds yesterday. We’re only 8 minutes into the confrontation when Everal Trapp finds Norman “Tilliman” Nunez in this left touch and the veteran on the run rifles this ball into the fore corner to give Verdes the early 1 – zip lead. At the 15th minute FC Belize strikes back Jarret Davis receives this drop from off the right of Orlando Jimenez to Devon Zuniga whose launch breaks William Lino in goal to tie the ballgame at 1 apiece. Verdes now look for the 90 ahead goal on this press and in a dispute for possession for a air ball. FC’s keeper Chimilio raises up to control but comes down on Julio Ayala only to suffer real pain but would continue. So we of to mid half action as it’s the Verdes defense who bring force to scramble to get this ball out of harms way. When Orlando Jimenez left this ball to Gilroy Thorton inside the box the striker rises his right hand to punch it into the net, for which he receives a yellow card and rightfully so. It’s FC Belize pressing the action when Travis Eiley picks up this loose ball to fire a right foot in heavy traffic and is denied only by the horizontal bar. Jarrett Davis then gets a chance to finish the fan but fails to get the ball past William Lino in a 1 0n 1 face off. It’s getting late so Norman “Tilliman” Nunez looks for the tie breaker off this set piece from long distance and isn’t too far off the ferret. Marlon Meza frees up himself nicely from 2 FC defenders and the trick shot just isn’t good enough to get past Glenford Chimilio. When the long whistle blows it closes the door on a 1 – 1 show. Meanwhile the other 2 matches produced similar results. Paradise Freedom Fighters and Police battled to a 1- 1 tie and so did San Ignacio Untied and the Belize defense Force. This coming out of the week 5 schedule Paradise Freedom Fighters is the rumor with 12 points, Verdes and the B.D.F. show 11 points apiece, the bandits have and FC Belize both show 10 points apiece. San Ignacio United 5 and Police United the defending champion none occupy the cellar with 4 points. Meanwhile folks, this weekend the PLB will field the back matches from week 7. Thus on Saturday December 7th at 7 PM Belmopan Bandits will host Verdes and on Sunday 8th, San Ignacio United and Police United will battle inside the Norman Broaster Stadium at 3:30 PM and down south, the league leaders Paradise Freedom Fighters will host the Belize Defense Force. In other football news recent play in the Belize City Mayors Cup saw Fort George bow Ebony Lake 5 – zip, Kephawn Pawn Shop folded Hattieville United 5 – 2, Kulture Yabra damaged Ladyville Jaguars 3 – 1 and West Lake and Wasted Tulsity 5 – zip. Folks Saturdays default by Complex Admirals to Kephawn Pawn Shop with them both going for the title. In was from Smart U-13 football tournament played on Saturday at the MCC Grounds saw Belize Elementary default to Third World, City Boys burned Collet Strikes 1 – 0 on a goal by Kenroy Linares, Rising Stars blanked Survivors 2 to nothing with both goals coming from Andre Vasquez and Brown Bombers edges Ladyville Japans 1 – nil. Thus the 4 teams heading to Saturday’s semi-finals round up are: Brown Bombers, City Boys, Hattieville United and Rising Stars seeded in that order. Sherwin Requeña of Brown Bombers leads this tournament with 9 goals. Turning to the cycling scene results from the Thursday night criterion David Henderson of Megabytes level out his teammate Byron Pope for top honors while Richard Santiago pulled up 3rd. In the Jr. clocks it was Delaun Abraham emerging the top man while Darrian Anderson pulled up 2nd and Darrell Garcia 3rd. In the opener Andy Dominiguez of Morting Gym oppressed the ground to get a resounding unanimous win over Raul Suares, Harold Maraiano edged 150 lbs Roger Flores in a split decision, Pauline Reneau lost to Maria Garcia of Mexico in a contention decision, Allan Gebran wins outstanding in his big W over Saul Novelo, Max Williams lost to Sergio Ramos in a split decision while Sherman Galvez got a 1st round knockout win over Adrian Torres in a bloody affair.
