A newly remodeled and reintroduced Courts Belize

It has been in the jewel for the past twenty years providing top of the line products and services to approximately ten percent of the Belizean population. And after almost ten renovations, Courts Belize Limited at mile one and a half on the Philip Goldson Highway is reinventing itself yet again. And today it official launched the new main branch remodeled with modern and edgy furniture, appliances and a welcoming feel. Managing Director, Keith Slater explains.

Keith Slater, Managing Director, Unicomer (Belize) Limited

Keith Slater

“We’ve got a facelift from the floor up. I would like to say also the ceiling but our brand new lights have not arrived yet, so that will be something coming in a little later. We’ve got brand new furniture, lots of new ranges in electronics and some real exciting products. The upstairs has been remodeled as well.  We do our very best to support the local manufactures wherever we can. And it is a blend of what people really want, making the furniture and appliances affordable, the credit packages right and tailored to their needs and the mix of things. We have to reinvent ourselves every so often. We’ve been in Belize almost twenty years now and we must have reinvented ourselves at least ten times I think.   The dollar down has sort of been a household name for courts plus one of our other brands is Tropigas because of part of the Unicomer family, but dollar down is kinda synonymous with the name now. We have a lot of customers that have taken advantage of the offer. All our credit is in-house; we do not use finance companies or anything, and our customer base continues to grow over the years. I think people expect innovation from us.”

“Tell us about the products that we see out here. I know that you have new product, BOAL…tell us about that.”

Keith Slater

“BOAL is a very well respected, a Mexican line of products; they only make furniture. It is a very high quality product that uses fine Italian leathers and very high quality materials in their products. We range this in the whole of the Caribbean as well as Ashley which people are aware of as well, which we have displays upstairs of Ashley. BOAL tends to be very modern, fine lines, very clean lines of furniture. They do traditional pieces as well, but we went for the very modern look and we think people would be very excited by it.”

Only 10 percent of the population? This seem like a very low percentage to me. where the poor of Belize is like 90% of the country, I think at least 50% of this class takes advantage of the dollar down.

Courts just feeds off the poor of the poor with their exorbitant and inflated prices and credit rates…charging you two or three times the value of the item if you get it on credit….thats just rediculous!!
