Sparks fly across the House Floor; Barrow versus Fonseca

With the proposed amendment bills out of the way, the sparring got underway. There was a fiery exchange between P.M. Barrow and Opposition Leader, Francis Fonseca, regarding the investigations into the passport and visa scandals.  The prime minister’s took a walk down memory lane on what transpired during past P.U.P. administrations on the very issue that has rocked successive administrations. But Fonseca preferred to focus on progress.  Belizeans, he says, are tired of hearing about what has happened in the past.

“Concurrent investigations are taking place.  Assistant Commissioner of Police Blackett is in charge of the police investigation and all relevant files that he requires are turned over to him.  There’s no question of any files being destroyed.  I have indicated that the auditor general has now herself gone in and I will tell you about the difference in terms of the way this government is responding to the discharge of her duties by the auditor general and the way the People’s United Party responded when the auditor general, when the auditor general was obliged to inquire into the seven point five million dollars that went missing under the tenure of the member for Fort George as the minister in charge of the Belize economic Citizenship Program. Now, the Leader of the Opposition said what, it was obscene the way I pledged to spend millions of dollars to protect the seat in Cayo Northeast.  The monies don’t belong to me and monies have to be spent, government monies that is, in accordance with proper procedure.  Sir, I absolutely know that and that is how I operate, that is why unlike you no CCJ will ever be able to refer to my conduct, no CCJ will ever be able to refer to my conduct in terms of the public trust and dealing with public monies as constituting a malignant tumor.”

“The prime minister is about to engage in another round of impunity, suggesting that others on this side of the house are engaged in illegal activities.  Please, the Belizean people are sick and tired of the rhetoric.  Deal with the corruption in your own government!  People don’t want you to be talking about Said Musa or anybody, the Belizean people are sick of that.  Yo gaan to LA gone complain ‘bout your deputy prime minister, talk to the people of Belize about the corruption and rot eating away at this UDP government, every single one of them, every single one.  That is what the Belizean people want and expect you Mr. Prime Minister to deal with.  Deal with the rot sitting beside you and next to you.”

“Belizeans, he says, are tired of hearing about what has happened in the past.”

Belizeans are tired of repeating the past, this is not progress.

Government criminals need to go to jail, especially elected politicians who created this mess.

Their criminal leadership is a national disaster of scandal after scandal, crooked deals by people who should be in prison.

  2. screw beano says:

“There’s no question of any files being destroyed.”

    I believe that!!!

There is no doubt they are being destroyed in a massive coverup instigated by the highest levels of the Belizean government to avoid prison time.

Yes, there is no question of any files being destroyed.

The question is whether your shredders can do it quickly enough before your elected rats start singing.

Penner in prison should be good for his hypertension, he will receive the finest medical care in Hattieville. His blood pressure might go up when is home and money are taken away as penalties for his crimes.

  3. screw beano, deano says:

“I pledged to spend millions of dollars to protect the seat in Cayo Northeast.”

Then why did you DEAN O. BARROW reverse course and pull out of supporting Penner?

A last gasp of money to the UDP faithful before your criminal access to funds stops.

  4. Patriot says:

The work of the auditor general is all in vain and useless for Belize; but for the UDP it’s going to be big–no evidence of corruption-Castro is clean. Castro has done it once, he is doing it again. He’s an expert! Like in the Penner’s case (later a change of heart), the PM is giving his full support to this new way of corruption. Records of payments will not be there because it was an illicit activity, so PM don’t try to take Belizeans for a ride..for fools. What needs to be done is an Investigation, a senate inquiry, look at all Castro’s financial bank accounts (his very close family too); payments or monies given to Castro by Burgess. There has to be traces of this.
