Attempted execution of Belizean in Calderitas

The Mexican newspaper, Diario de Quintana Roo, is reporting today that Belizean, Delmar Javier Guerra, a resident of San Joaquin up north was shot in Calderitas on Monday. The report says that the motive for the attempted execution is unknown, but it is believed it has to do with organized crime. The incident happened in the restaurant zone of Calderitas just before five o’clock on Monday afternoon. Guerra told the police that he is a custom officer from Belize, but that remains uncertain. He sustained injuries to the neck and was rushed to the General Hospital; he underwent surgery for the removal of the bullet and the hospital was secured by law enforcement officers. Police secured the scene of the shooting and detained a taxi driver, twenty-nine year old Jorge Alfredo Andrade Azueta, who they believe is linked to the attempted murder. Andrade, however, told the police that he had dropped off Guerra near a restaurant when he saw a man approach, open fire on him and then flee into a waiting taxi. But eye witness accounts contradict that version. The newspaper report says that Andrade was heard saying by cellular phone that “Verde is here waiting.”  Andrade was subsequently detained by the police as a suspect. According to the newspaper, it will soon be confirmed if it was in fact an attempted execution style murder, since they unofficially say that the shooting victim is allegedly a drug dealer in Belize.
