P.M. says language in Criminal Code cannot be changed

Dean Barrow

The P.M. further stated that while the language used in the drafting of the gender policy can be revisited and discussed, such is not the case with the proposed amendment to the Criminal Code.  He says the church is way off tangent.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“You know, the gender policy.  I’ve said to the churches, I understand that there is language in there that might need to be tweaked.  I understand that there is language in there that you can see as code for certain things and so we will come to the table and talk about that.  Not so in the case of this bill man!  It has nothing to do with that.  Christ, it is trying to protect especially young people male and female.  How in god’s name can they go off in such a wholly and utterly misguided way on legislation like this?  In any case, I’ve said to the ministry that’s in charge, have a press mixer.  I think they are doing so next Wednesday, I don’t know if you’ve received your invitation yet, go through with the press that bill section by section and I dare anybody to reasonably be able to point to anything that can support this absolutely benighted argument that the bill is doing anything other than trying to increase protection for people against sexual crimes.”

The Special Envoy for Women and Children, as well as the National Committee for Families and Children are avid proponents for the revision of the legislation.
