GSU operation seizes 26 pounds of marijuana

Richard Smith

On Thursday, the Gang Suppression unit seized twenty-six pounds of marijuana from a lot on Belama Phase four. The report by the unit states that officers conducted a search on an open lot occupied by thirty-three year old Richard Smith and two other persons. While nothing incriminating was found on the lot or on any of the three, the GSU states that Smith then escorted officers to another lot where he claimed he had drugs hidden. There they discovered a black plastic bag containing thirty-two smaller bags of marijuana weighing thirty-eight hundred grams. An additional search of the lot yielded two parcels of compressed marijuana weighing ninety-three hundred grams. As a result, Smith was arrested and charged for two counts of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply. That happened at eleven in the morning, and the GSU states that as a part of the same operation, at six-thirty they went to an area on New Road near the Queen Street Police Station. Under a vehicle they found a forty millimeter Smith and Wesson pistol with two live rounds of ammunition. Nobody was found in the area and the weapon was confiscated and sent for processing to determine if it had been used in the commission of specific other crimes.
