2 cruise ship passengers fined for possession of controlled drug

Jeffery Rogers

Two cruise ship passengers, who came into Belize City on Tuesday, got themselves in big trouble with the law when they were found in possession of marijuana. They are American nationals Jeffery Rogers, an Industrial Pioneer of Dayton, Tennessee and Jeron Harigan, a national of Saint Martins in the Caribbean.

Jeron Harigan

Both men appeared before Magistrate Clive Lino less than an hour before their last tender was to sail back to their ship. Harigan was the first to be detained at the Tourism Village. He was found with a small plastic bag which contained four point seven grams of marijuana just after eleven in the morning. He pleaded guilty and was fined four hundred dollars.  Minutes later, Rogers, was seen to be acting suspiciously. When he was approached and searched police found eight ounces of cannabis in a bag. After he pleaded guilty, he was fined eight hundred dollars. Both men paid up the fine and rushed off to their waiting tender.

G.O.B. should seriously think of legalizing Marijuana. Licour is far more dangerous than Marijuana. Think of the potential revenue the government would collect if it has a tax attached to it. Of course it would have to be regulated like any other drug. Many countries are now thinking about going down this road and many states in the mighty united states are heading in that direction. Belize as a country in desperate need of extra income should give this avenue more serious consideration. Those two guests should have enjoyed that part of Belize….

This is ridiculous how they arrest the poor tourists instead of the dealers who harassing them literally forcing them to buy it just so they leave them alone. When will the sellers be arrested?
