Carnival Committee to assist bands with designing training

Karen Vernon

With carnival 2013 behind, preparations for 2014 are already on the drawing board. While band leaders are already in the process of putting together innovative ideas to wow the judges and spectators, the Carnival Committee is also at work. Karen Vernon says that the Carnival Committee has decided to provide costume designing and engineering training as well as marketing tips to the various carnival bands to improve the road march and enhance the competition.

Karen Vernon, Institute of Creative Arts

“I was happy to see Seine Bight and Toledo represented and they are planning on coming back next year. What we plan to do in October, starting in October—because carnival finishes one day and you start the next day planning and starting your costume—we plan on bringing in a designer to do some workshops on costume design, color blending, engineer for the king and queen costumes, wire bending. We also plan to do a workshop with the bands on the business aspect of carnival because your bands you can make money off of it. You sell your costumes, you have your camps, and you make money off this. So we want to do this for the bands. So definitely starting October that is what we gonna do.”

Training begins as early as next month.
