Belizeans will now have to join club in order to use national stadium

Herman Longsworth

And there’s another issue which probably won’t sit easy with Belizeans who’ve gotten used to taking that early morning or evening workout at the National Stadium. You’ll still be able to do it, but only if you join a club. And it’s not going to be free.

Herman Longsworth, Minister of Sports

“That I am hoping will become a part of the plan that we’re working out…that we can establish a club. It’s not going to be free. We can establish a club where people pay a monthly due or something and have access to the facility. That will enable us to pay for the security to ensure that people don’t mess with who is using the facility. The gym will be there, they can access the gym. So I am hoping that a part of that business plan that will be developed will be a facility for a club to be formed, where the general public can access certain aspects of the facility, because we won’t be able to have them tearing up our track and tearing up our football field. We can’t do that. But the cycle area…the more durable areas…the cycle area, the jogging facility, they can come in and use, and access the gym as well.”

According to Longsworth, the grandstand at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex will seat a maximum of seven thousand spectators.
