Commencement of Berger Field Renovation Remains Indefinite Years After Campaign Promise

According to Longsworth, he hopes that by the end of the year, Belizeans will be able to make use of the Marion Jones Sporting Complex, to some extent at least.

As we do whenever we get a hold of Minister Longsworth, we asked about Berger Field. The complete renovation and restoration of that field started many years ago as a campaign promise, but it has never materialized. Longsworth maintains that it will, sometime in the future, but with a whole new look.

Herman Longsworth, Minister of Sports

Herman Longsworth

“There has a change to Berger Field. We are in conversation with FIFA and the F.F.B., we are having a meeting this week with F.F.B. to finalize it. But I can say in principle that we will be putting fiber side football so there has been a change but it is going to be a really nice facility if we can agree on the responsibilities that we must share. So that is why there is a delay because we were in discussion to do something else other than what was initially plan so we can cover more people and putting them in the proper programs. The intention was to lease the stadium to the F.F.B. and have them develop the football structure, a proper football club there. So the F.F.B. will, if we agree take over the facility and run it on our behalf. The funds we had received are still there it hasn’t been touched..”
