Tax Department takes Bertie Chimilio to court

Bertie Chimilio

The former president of the Football Federation of Belize, Bertie Chimilio, was summoned to court this morning. The Income Tax Department is attempting to collect over thirty thousand dollars which it claims Chimilio owes the department. But the case was adjourned because a witness did not appear. The department says Chimilio owes them thirty-three thousand dollars plus from the days he headed the F.F.B.   Chimilio explained to the court that last May he met with the Income Tax Department and did not hear from then again until February when he got a Demand Payment Note. He said he followed up with correspondence in March, but there was still no answer from the department and that when he got the summons he contacted the department again but was told that the matter was already before the courts. Prosecutor Gilroy Moore for the Income Tax Department told the court that on June fifteen 2012, Chimilio visited the Income tax Department officer where he was interviewed by Anne Castillo, but she was not in court. The case was then adjourned for Friday when Castillo is expected to be present. Chimilio was informed that he has to work out a payment plan with the department.
