Pelican Street resident charged with Drug Trafficking
Fifty-one year old Brenda Mejia, a school warden of Belize City, has been charged with drug trafficking after being busted at her home on Pelican Street Extension. On Tuesday evening, police executed a search warrant for illegal firearms and ammunition at her residence. While guns and bullets were not found, the raid yielded a bag containing a hundred and thirteen grams of cannabis. That measure is the equivalent of a quarter pound of marijuana. Mejia appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Leslie Hamilton this morning, where she pleaded not guilty to the charge. She was offered bail under the condition that a debt of fifty-five dollars, which she owed for a previous conviction, be paid forthwith. Mejia was later able to meet bail in the sum of two thousand dollars, plus one surety of the same amount. She is scheduled to return to court on October twentieth.
